August 6 – 1 Corinthians 2:6-3:4
However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, 8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. 13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. 16 For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
3 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. 2 I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; 3 for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? 4 For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not carnal?
OKAY, HERE’S MY TEACHING COMMENTARY
One of the Scriptures that jumps out to me here is verse seven that says God ordained wisdom before the ages FOR OUR GLORY! This means that God has always had a plan in mind, even before he created the heavens and earth for us and it’s a good plan. Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would come to help us and teach us all things.
John 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”
However, when you look around at the suffering of humanity sometimes it’s hard to understand that God is love and really cares for us. By the way, a really good question is if God has this great plan, this divine purpose for us and if he is all powerful then why does he allow so much suffering, poverty, crime, injustice and evil in the world he created???
Kind of a heavy question but many people do wonder about this. Where is God in all this? Well, God has always been good and caring. A loving father of his children but he did create all angels and humans with a will to choose. You see, God does not want a bunch of people that are programed like robots to just praise and worship him automatically under his control. No, God wants people to acknowledge him for who he really is and choose to love and worship him voluntarily or their own free will. This is why God in his wisdom warned humanities first parents Adam and Eve about eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. It was their choice and they chose to listen to the devil and eat it anyway. This is when sin entered into the world. Before they sinned Adam and Eve were enjoying the presence of God every day in the garden and were totally blessed with an abundance of food as they enjoyed life with God in the beautiful garden he created for them.
We learn from this the original thought and plan of God. To be with his people and enjoy their fellowship. So people’s bad choices are the root cause of sin and suffering. To me it seems like from the beginning of the Bible in Genesis we read about a good God who created the earth and mankind in his image and blessed them:
Genesis 1:26-28 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Can you see by these Scriptures how God made everything for us and is really for us and not against us? One of the biggest misconceptions is that God is against us. No God is against the devil and sin that causes so much destruction and pain. Christ came to redeem all of humanity and ultimately provide a renewed heaven and earth for the original plan of God to be fulfilled. This is what we find will be the final condition at the return of Christ, all that have received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior reconciled with God but even better than the original garden of Eden. The apostle John had this revealed to him by the Holy Spirit just like Paul was writing about in this portion of his letter that the Holy Spirit reveals to us the things of God, even the hidden wisdom of God concerning the future.
Revelation 21:3-6 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” 5 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” 6 And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.
Millions of redeemed people will inherit the Kingdom of God and all the pain and suffering caused by sin and rebellion will no longer exist. Now that is the wisdom of God planned for our glory!
WHAT’S THE BOTTOM LINE?
1) God in his wisdom has planned a glorious future for us
2) The Bible, the written word of God is the wisdom of God that the Holy Spirit reveals to us the children of God that we may know and understand all that the father has provided for us through the redemption we have in Christ.
3) The carnal or unspiritual man does not receive the things of the Holy Spirit because they are spiritually discerned. Multitudes are blind spiritually.
4) The Holy Spirit teaches and reveals to us what we cannot comprehend and spiritual realities that you can’t see with your physical eye but are real just the same.
5) Watch what God does in your life when you spend quality time reading the Word of God along with prayers for understanding. Pray Ephesians 1:17-18 for spiritual revelation by the Holy Spirit opening the eyes of our understanding!
