Revelation 10:1-11

The Mighty Angel with the Little Book 10 I saw still another mighty angel coming down from heaven, clothed with a cloud. And a rainbow was on his head, his face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire. 2 He had a little book open in his hand. And he set his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, 3 and cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roars. When he cried out, seven thunders uttered their voices. 4 Now when the seven thunders uttered their voices, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, “Seal up the things which the seven thunders uttered, and do not write them.”

5 The angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised up his hand to heaven 6 and swore by Him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and the things that are in it, the earth and the things that are in it, and the sea and the things that are in it, that there should be delay no longer, 7 but in the days of the sounding of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, the mystery of God would be finished, as He declared to His servants the prophets.

John Eats the Little Book 8 Then the voice which I heard from heaven spoke to me again and said, “Go, take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel who stands on the sea and on the earth.” 9 So I went to the angel and said to him, “Give me the little book.” And he said to me, “Take and eat it; and it will make your stomach bitter, but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth.”

10 Then I took the little book out of the angel’s hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter. 11 And he said to me, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings.”

OKAY, HERE’S MY TEACHING COMMENTARY

A mighty angel comes down from heaven with a book in his hand and he puts one foot on the sea and another foot on the land. John hears the voice of the angel roar like a lion and then seven thunders utter their voices or messages. At this point, John is about to write down what they said but he’s told not to do it. Why? I think it’s because the Lord wants us all to know that there are plenty of events he has in mind to fulfill as surprises or suddenly moments!

Next the angel tells him to go and take the book from his hand and to eat it but it will be sweet  in his mouth like honey but bitter in his stomach. To a man of God like John the apostle that who was in the Spirit and in the middle of doing the will of the Father the prophetic word coming to him was sweet because the message was not for him personally. This is why it says that it turned into bitterness in his stomach because the message was a revelation of God’s wrath and judgment to come upon nations, kings and other people of the earth that refuse to repent.

Eating the Word of God, I mean reading and meditating on it constantly is still good counsel for us today! I remember when I first got saved someone gave me a Bible and I began to read it and for the first time in my life I began to hear the voice of God speak to me through his Word the Bible. I spent hours and hours reading the word of God and have read the entire Bible about 15 times. This is one of the reasons why I am recording the New Testament and providing teaching commentary.

The more of God’s word that we put into our lives the more we discern between true and false teaching. When I was a child I went with my mother to the bank and I observed all the tellers cashing checks and handling money. I thought to myself how do they know if it’s real or counterfeit money.  I asked my mother the same question and she said; “Nick they handle so much real money that when they touch fake money it just doesn’t feel right.”  It’s the same with us as Christians and the word of God. If you constantly feed yourself the word of God and listen to good solid Bible messages and true doctrine or teaching then when you hear someone twisting the word of God trying to make it say something it does not well, it just doesn’t feel right on the inside you.

The word of God is the Sword of the Spirit and the bread of life. I have found that if I will be faithful to fill my life with God’s word the Holy Spirit is faithful to bring to my remembrance the Scriptures that I need right when I need them. Here is a link to a message that I preach called:
