February 6 – Matthew 24:29-51
“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. 36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. 37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left.

42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. 45 “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing. 47 Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods. 48 But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ 49 and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, 50 the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is not aware of, 51 and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

OKAY HERE'S MY TEACHING COMMENTARY

The meaning of this generation shall not pass away until all is fulfilled
Matthew 24:34 “Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.” Some people try to say that the Bible is not true because Jesus said this generation will not pass away until all is fulfilled. However, they misunderstand the context of Jesus words. Jesus was talking about the signs that people would observe when his 2nd coming was near at the end of the age. When Jesus said “this generation” was not talking about his own generation or that of the early disciples because He did not return in power and glory as He said he would for His generation. This generation means the generation living to see all the prophetic signs fulfilled before their eyes just before His 2nd coming.

Beware of those that set dates for the coming of the Lord
Jesus said in Matthew 24:36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.” It seems like every year there is some guy or movement that comes along proclaiming that they've heard from heaven about the exact day that the Lord will return. When people do this they immediately label themselves as false prophets because of Jesus own words that no one knows the day or the hour of his coming. This information is only known by the Father in heaven and he's not going to change his mind about sharing that information with someone on earth to let everyone know. I think that God is with held this information intentionally so people will keep their faith and hope in God. If everyone knew the hour of Jesus Christ's 2nd coming then many people would live in sin and then just before the coming of the Lord they would repent so they could be saved. This is why Jesus said be ready because you don't know when I'm coming!

The Faithful Servant and the Evil Servant
It was in the context of no one knowing when the Lord will return that Jesus said “be ready.” Then Jesus taught a parable about two kinds of servants. One servant was good and faithful serving the Lord all his heart. I think Jesus was talking about pastors especially because He said these servants were in charge of his household to feed his family. Jesus said that the faithful servant would be blessed and rewarded at the coming of the Lord. Then Jesus goes on to describe the wicked servant. First, notice the heart attitude of the servant. Jesus said that the servant said within his heart my Lord is delaying his coming. In other words, he didn't take the warning of Jesus seriously to live ready. This servant of the Lord was a hypocrite because Jesus said he lived a double lifestyle partying and getting drunk. Again, I believe this is referring to a bad leader because Jesus said this wicked servant began to mistreat and beat those under him. We know from Scripture that God is merciful and when his servants backslide there are many examples of God confronting his people with their spiritual condition so that they could repent and be restored to God. 5 of the 7 churches that

Jesus sent messages to in Revelation chapters 2 and 3 had either moral or doctrinal problems that the Lord wanted to correct. However, Jesus said that the Lord of this wicked servant would return at a time he wasn't looking for him and would cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites were there would be weeping and gnashing of teeth. When Jesus said this wicked servant would be cut in two it means that God would bring judgment on this wicked servant manifesting his divided evil heart. In other words his hypocrisy would be judged. This can only mean, that this evil servant was judged for his sinful lifestyle with the judgment of Hell along with other hypocrites. This is a solemn warning of Jesus Christ our Lord not to take for granted our salvation. Just like the writer of Hebrews said… “how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation…Hebrews 2:3
Thank God for 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

WHAT’S THE BOTTOM LINE?

  1. The fact is Jesus Christ will return again to this Earth according to his promise.
  2. Don't be deceived by those that set dates of when Jesus is returning.
  3. Live every day like Jesus Christ could return today.
  4. Be a good and faithful servant serving the Lord with all your heart and your reward will be great.
  5. Don't neglect your salvation but live a dedicated life to God and glorify him and all you do and say.
