“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered some of every kind, 48 which, when it was full, they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, 50 and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” 51 Jesus said to them, “Have you understood all these things?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.” 52 Then He said to them, “Therefore every scribe instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old.”
53 Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these parables, that He departed from there. 54 When He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works? 55 Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? 56 And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?” 57 So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.” 58 Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief
14 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the report about Jesus 2 and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.” 3 For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife. 4 Because John had said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.” 5 And although he wanted to put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet. 6 But when Herod’s birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod. 7 Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask. 8 So she, having been prompted by her mother, said, “Give me John the Baptist’s head here on a platter.” 9 And the king was sorry; nevertheless, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he commanded it to be given to her. 10 So he sent and had John beheaded in prison. 11 And his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. 12 Then his disciples came and took away the body and buried it, and went and told Jesus.
OKAY HERE’S MY TEACHING COMMENTARY
Let's look at what it means to be a scribe of the kingdom of God.
Jesus asked his disciples if they understood everything he had been teaching them. They said yes Lord. Jesus said every scribe instructed about the kingdom of God is like a householder bringing forth out of his treasure things old and new. What does this mean? Back in biblical times scribes were teachers of the law. They instructed the people about what the word of God meant so people could understand it. They were in fact the teachers of the word of God. The goal of Jesus was to develop his disciples into a new class of Scribes, Scribes of the kingdom of God. In other words, teachers that could expound the meaning of both the Old and New Testament. This is what Jesus meant when he said every scribe or teacher instructed about the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings forth out of his treasure things new and things old.
The word of God is an eternal treasure that God has deposited, imparted, invested, and given to men and women called of God to preach and declare his eternal Word. Now what's interesting to me, is that in acts chapter 4 the Bible records the confrontation of the apostles Peter and John with the religious leaders of their day for preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and His resurrection from the dead. Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness and unfettered eloquence of Peter and John and perceived that they were unlearned and untrained in the schools [common men with no educational advantages], they marveled; and they recognized that they had been with Jesus. Amplified
Peter and John were a product of Jesus Christ. The religious leaders recognized they didn't go to the University of Jerusalem! They didn't graduate with the Scribes and Pharisee’s. But there was something different about Peter and John. There was great confidence and boldness as they preached the word of God. You see Jesus had developed them into a new kind of Scribe, a new kind of Teacher, a new kind of Preacher. All these religious leaders could do was acknowledge that they had been with Jesus. Jesus had reproduced himself in both Peter and John! Now there's nothing wrong with going to a Bible school. I myself graduated from Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas Texas. I then went to Kingsway Missionary Institute to learn Spanish language and culture for another year. I can truly say my life was transformed through the teachers at the Bible schools that I attended.
Peter and John had walked with Jesus for over 3 years and had absorbed his word, his teaching, and his spirit, and they were now both filled with the Holy Spirit and Christ was preaching and healing through them. Who's your mentor? This is really important because whoever you hang around with you'll eventually become just like. I want to become like Jesus so I surround myself with people that are full of Christ, His Spirit, His Word, His love and His power.
My prayer is that I become all that God wants me to become in esus Christ and reproduce Christ in a multitude of others. This is why I started the one year Bible club and I'm glad you're listening today. Become like Christ yourself and influence others to follow Jesus as Lord. That's our mission! The salvation of the world and the discipling of the nations. Let's do it together in Jesus name. Thanks for listening to the one year Bible club, have a wonderful day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
