May 21 - John 11:55-12:19
And the Passover of the Jews was near, and many went from the country up to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves. 56 Then they sought Jesus, and spoke among themselves as they stood in the temple, “What do you think—that He will not come to the feast?” 57 Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a command, that if anyone knew where He was, he should report it, that they might seize Him.
Chapter 12
Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead. 2 There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him. 3 Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. 4 But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said, 5 “Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” 6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it. 7 But Jesus said, “Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial. 8 For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.” 9 Now a great many of the Jews knew that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead. 10 But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also, 11 because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.
12 The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ The King of Israel!” 14 Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written: 15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion; Behold, your King is coming, Sitting on a donkey’s colt.” 16 His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that they had done these things to Him. 17 Therefore the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of his tomb and raised him from the dead, bore witness. 18 For this reason the people also met Him, because they heard that He had done this sign. 19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, “You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him!”
OKAY, HERE'S MY TEACHING COMMENTARY
Let's look at the age-old struggle between dead religion and resurrection life! Jesus had performed innumerable miracles through his ministry. I mean think of some of the powerful miracles Jesus Christ did:
In this portion of Scripture we see Jesus having dinner with Lazarus who He raised from the dead. The Bible says that this miracle caused multitudes of the Jews to believe on Jesus as the promised Messiah. Verse 11 says: “Because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.” Now this caused the Pharisees, the religious leaders of Jesus day to react violently.
Why? Because their influence was diminishing. The people were finding a new source of spiritual life and power through Jesus Christ. Multitudes were forsaking the Pharisees because Jesus was doing miracles and lifting humanity bringing a fresh revelation of His Father God! You see, Jesus was God in the flesh, God with skin on. When God starts moving in miracle power healing, cleansing, restoring, lifting and delivering humanity they realize that religion – dead religion means nothing but a relationship with the living God is everything.
The Pharisees realized that the evidence could not be denied. No, Lazarus was testifying about his resurrection experience and everyone was believing on Jesus because of his testimony. The Pharisees decided to put Lazarus to death to get rid of the evidence of the resurrection power of God. This is what insecure, dead religious leaders will do when they cannot produce the same kind of living power that flows from the living resurrected Christ!
WHAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE?
1. Jesus Christ brought the miracle power of God to Humanity.
2. Lazarus was raised from the dead and became a witness of Jesus life transforming power.
3. Religious leaders that do not know God are threatened by those that manifest God’s power and set people free.
4. Don’t be surprised if you're persecuted because the resurrection power of God is manifesting through you.
5. No matter what you're going through, Jesus can bring His resurrection life into your circumstances and raise you up to a new level of life and victory!

Let's look at the age-old struggle between dead religion and resurrection life! Jesus had performed innumerable miracles through his ministry. I mean think of some of the powerful miracles Jesus Christ did:
- He turned water into wine!
- He healed paralyzed, blind and crippled people.
- He cast out all kinds of demons from people.
- He walked on water and caused Peter to walk on water too!
- He multiplied a few fish and loaves of bread to feed over 5000 people!
In this portion of Scripture we see Jesus having dinner with Lazarus who He raised from the dead.
